The Detroit Red Wings started the regular season with a string of problems. One of the team’s top penalty killers, Darren Helm, is on injured reserve. Veteran defenseman Trevor Daley just returned off the injury list last week.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams at Henry Ford College measure success in different ways.

Men’s basketball

The Henry Ford College roller hockey team started their season in Grove City, Pennsylvania. With only seven on our roster, we tried to make a statement the first weekend.

After losing to Macomb Community College on Oct. 18, the Hawks thought their season was over.

Placing fifth last year in the North Central District standings, the Henry Ford College wrestling team is looking to make a big impact this season. The squad is welcoming back six wrestlers as well as sixteen new faces.

The Henry Ford College volleyball team hosted Macomb Community College on Oct. 2 and Schoolcraft Community College on Oct. 4, winning both home games 3-0.

The Henry Ford College Hawks golf team is wrapping up the fall season and the biggest headline for the team this fall has been Alana Jones.

Student athletes run a very busy schedule each and every day. They must balance the sport they play, classes, schoolwork, and their social life all in one. Being a part of the Henry Ford College volleyball team I understand how hard this can be.

The new head coach for the Henry Ford College baseball team will be Mike Abney, who takes over after eight seasons as an assistant coach with the Hawks. Abney had been assistant coach since 2010 when baseball was brought back to Henry Ford.
