The Detroit Tigers baseball season has just started and the boys of summer are looking to take over the top spot in the American League Central. Last season the Tigers finished outside of the playoffs for a second straight year.

Baseball will once again be played at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull in Detroit.

On Feb. 8, the Winter Olympics begin in Pyeongchang, South Korea, with curling and ski jumping. The opening ceremonies will be aired in the U.S. on Feb. 9 on NBC.

In its inaugural season as a varsity team, the Henry Ford College wrestling team is gaining experience and earning recognition, and success.

The Henry Ford College Hawks men’s basketball team is on a seven-game winning streak, improving its record to 15-3. The offense is led by forward, C.J. Wilson, who averages nearly 17 points per game.

Henry Ford College is diversifying its athletic programs. The school already has seven varsity sports, with girls basketball set to return in the 2018 season; however, there is one new team that is rolling into the spotlight this season.

Little Caesars Arena opened in September 2017. The Arena is home to both the Detroit Pistons and Red Wings, and five restaurants that are open to the public year-round. There is also nearby parking, and a great outdoor space for people to enjoy.

I was a starter for the Henry Ford College volleyball team this past season. I played JV and varsity for the Davison Cardinals in high school. I also played for Intensity Elite, a travel team.

The Detroit Lions held their annual draft party on April 27. I was honored to be the only college reporter invitedto attend the event.
