Hawks Winter Recap

The Henry Ford Hawks had a great winter season in which they saw all three teams perform far above expectations by all making the playoffs.

The basketball team finished at the top of the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference for the first time since the 2008-09 season. The team also had a new head coach, Chris Shepard, who helped lead the Hawks to the number-16 ranked team in the MCCAA. The Hawks finished the season with a 75-63 loss to Delta College, however the Hawks will be a force to be reckoned with next season, as the team finished 23-7.

The Hawks Basketball team also brought home some awards at the end of the season as Coach Shepard won Coach of the Year in his first season at the helm. C.J. Wilson brought home the Eastern Conference Freshman of the Year, and Matt Eldridge was named Co-Defensive MVP in the Eastern Conference.

Matt Eldridge was also named to 1st team All MCCAA, Region 12, and All-Eastern Conference. C.J. Wilson was named to 2nd team MCCAA, and Eastern Conference as well as being named to the All Fresh team Eastern Conference along with A.J. Johnson who was also an Honorable Mention in the Eastern Conference. Mascio McCadeny was named to the 3rd team Eastern Conference and the District 10 All-Tournament Team.

Wrestling made its debut as a varsity sport this year and had six of the eight members of the team make the NWCA Academic All-American team. The team also finished 33rd in their first appearance at the NJCAA National Wrestling Championships.

HFC added roller hockey this winter. The team finished as runners-up in a conference that includes the University of Michigan and Ohio State University. The team also finished second in the conference tournament to Miami of Ohio. The team will compete in the national championship tournament, set for April 13-15 in Fargo, North Dakota. Congrats to all HFC varsity teams on great seasons and good luck to the roller hockey team as they play for a national championship.
