A new plan to save Detroit Public Schools is to be introduced to the Michigan legislature before the end of the year.

The future of online education at HFC has come into question since the Board of Trustees voted to allocate 1.5 million dollars to explore online education last fall.

Online courses have been a real benefit to many students and their flexibility has made them more convenient for students who have to balance work and family obligations while completing their degree. It has also proven profitable for institutions who have entered the online education arena.

Perhaps you are familiar with this old library cliché: bored people sit uninterested while a dour librarian shushes the faintest whisper. This librarian usually has a pencil holding together a bun in her hair and wears thick glasses attached to a beaded chain. This image may work for cartoons, but library supervisor Joyce Hommel wants to shatter this stereotype and create a new image for librarians and the libraries they look after. Hommel is Eshleman Library’s new supervisor and she has a new vision for Henry Ford College.

t’s voting season. The city of Dearborn Heights held an election on November 3 to determine future members of the city council. This year there were five candidates competing for only three seats.

Metro Detroit has lost a great leader. At the age of 95, Sir Michael Berry has passed but leaves a very long and successful legacy that will remain imprinted in this community for generations to come. The Michael Berry amphitheater in the Administrative Services and Conference Center building is named in his honor.

The focus at the paper has undergone an active shift. Instead of commenting on anything under the sun, we wanted to deal more with local news. Specifically, we wanted to cover politics and events happening in and around Henry Ford campus. While brainstorming ideas in writer’s meetings, certain topics began to come up that needed a special kind of source for information. We were lucky enough to get a meeting with the current mayor of Dearborn, John O’Reilly Jr. and he had a lot to say about the future of the city.
