“Vinsetta Garage”
Have you ever heard of a Yeti Dog? How about Disco Fries? No? Well, if you head on over to Vinsetta Garage on Woodward Avene in Royal Oak you’ll find these wonderful dishes and so much more. Vinsetta Garage has a considerable Instagram following and has made a name for itself. As you step up and the original signage greets you, you know you’re in for an excellent experience.
Vinsetta Garage is the oldest garage east of Mississippi. The building is a real, authentic car garage and used-to-be gas station that has now become a trendy eaterie. Instead of cars and tools, there are leather booths big enough for a family of six. Original bumper stickers and photos of old-fashioned cars decorate the walls.. If you aren’t instantly enticed by the scenery, Chef Aaron Cozadd has a whole menu lined up to convert you. There is even a separate menu for those who prefer gluten-free options. Let’s start off how most meals at restaurants begin: appetizers. Would you rather start off with some squeaky cheese or loaded fries? Why not both in one? Disco Fries, as they call them, are hand-cut fries, topped with Ellsworth cheese curds, whole grain mustard gravy, chili flakes, and scallions. Maybe some loaded potato chips will fire up your taste buds. Homemade potato chips loaded with house-smoked cheddar, pickled chilies, and scallions will get any hungry mouth watering. If you’re choosing from the gluten free menu you can go for some Smoked Chicken Wings. These wings either come mild or, if you’re feeling adventurous, spiced with Garden’s Ghost Chili Sauce.
What you’re really here for, though, is their awesome burgers and scrumptious dogs. Let’s start off with the classic Vinsetta Burger. A classic double, with two 4 oz. Vinsetta blend patties cooked through, layered with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, sliced McClure’s pickles, maple bacon, and Vinsetta’s special burger sauce. Maybe you want a vegan burger. Step right over to the EV1, a house-made vegan patty, topped with coal fired tomatoes, arugula, broccoli sprouts, goat cheese, shiitake bacon, roasted garlic balsamic mayo. You can also make it truly vegan by ordering a pretzel bun, subbing out Daiya cheese, and opting for no mayo. Finally, a personal favorite: The Yeti Dog. It will sound like a pure heart attack on a bun but it is most definitely worth it. Imagine a plain old hot dog. Now drop that hot dog in the deep fryer. That’s right! A deep fried hot dog. Not only is it deep fried but it’s also wrapped in bacon and layered with melted pepper-jack, chopped tomato, shredded romaine, and mayo. Not just one, but two dogs are placed on your plate ready to be gobbled up.
Let’s top it all off with desserts because it would not be a true Vinsetta experience without some Faygo Rock n Rye ice cream. Yes, you read that right. They have taken Faygo Rock n Rye, churned it in liquid nitrogen and topped it off with none other than Pop Rocks. Talk about a throwback to childhood. For those who love chocolate, there is a Brownie Pot Pie which is made with bittersweet chocolate brownie topped with milk chocolate ganache, cinnamon pie crust, salted-caramel drizzle, and topped off with house-made nitrogen churned vanilla ice cream.
Next time you plan date night or evening out with the family, consider Vinsetta Garage but do try to go early because everyone is trying to get in these doors to experience something like no other.
