Interview with Student Council President Byron Brooks

Byron Brooks is a very dedicated music major. Brooks has also obtained a certificate in sound engineering and uses it to control the sound board for Henry Ford’s vocal jazz ensemble, Blue Fusion. Brooks has maintained a 4.0 throughout his college career and has a positive impact on his friends within the student body. He sees his biggest accomplishment, though, as becoming HFC Student Council President. Brooks has many plans for the upcoming academic school year. Those plans include assisting the Office of Student Activities with the voter registration drive to register students to vote. In this event, Council members plan to have dialogue to encourage those who are shy and explain procedures about voting to those who have never done so. Student Council will also send hurricane relief to the states of Texas and Florida.

The Student Council meets twice a month under the direction of Student Council Advisor, Adam Hazlett. Student Council meetings are open to the public and guests are encouraged to attend.

The Council is currently looking for ways to connect with the HFC student body . Student Council plans to host a coffee hour where students can interact with each other and Council members. “Our primary goal is for students to recognize us and be comfortable enough to talk about any situation,” Brook says . “We are planning to have two meetings each semester in which we will reserve the auditorium not only for the student body, but also for community who would like to know what’s going on or get involved in any type of way,” Brook says . The first open forum meeting will be held on Oct. 18; the venue is yet to be announced.
