It was 8:46 am. New York City firefighters were dispatched for a call they would never forget, and as they were gradually coming closer, people were running away or standing confused. It was complete chaos, there was no doubt that it came clear what was happening: Flight 11 from American Airlines hosting 92 people was flying from Boston, Massachusetts when it crashed into the top of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. The people at the top were trapped in a crumbling and burning.
As NYC firefighters were entering the scene, a second flight also coming from Boston, Massachusetts - United Airlines Flight 175 which had 66 people - crashed into the center of South Tower of the World Trade Center at 9:03 am. At 9:21 am, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) shut down all U.S airports. This was the first time in history air flights were halted nationwide.
This year is the eleventh anniversary of September 11, 2001, the attack on the World Trade Center know known as 9/11. The act of terrorism caused for the loss of daughters, sons, fathers, wives, and friends. The death toll summed up to 2,823, which is inclusive of the brave NYC firefighters who risked their lives to save thousands. The names of the innocent lives that were taken on that fateful day eleven years ago will now be displayed at the Freedom Tower – a memorial project in progress.
