It was a memorable year for Henry Ford College basketball. The men’s team brought home a conference title, Coach Chris Shepard added another award to his résumé, and several players from both programs earned individual recognition.

The men finished the season 20–8 overall and 11–3 in conference play, which was enough to win the MCCAA championship. It is the program’s first title since 2023 and the fourth since Shepard took over in the 2017–18 season. Shepard was also named MCCAA Coach of the Year, recognizing the progress the program has made during his tenure.

This year’s team was strong on both offense and defense. Offensively, they averaged 85.7 points per game and shot 46.7 percent from the field. On defense, they held opponents to 73.6 points per game and 39.3 percent shooting. The team also averaged 8.5 steals and 5.0 blocks per game. They did a good job taking care of the ball, which helped them in close games throughout the season.

Freshman Jayce “JL” Branson played a major role in the team’s success. He averaged 17.9 points per game and scored 502 total points in 28 games. He finished with double-digit points in 24 games and had several 20 and 30-point games. His best game of the season came when he scored 42 points.

Branson earned multiple awards for his performance. He was named MCCAA East Co-Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. He also earned spots on the NJCAA All-Region Team, All-Defensive Team, and All-Freshman Team.

Other players were recognized as well. Shemarion Hardy earned Second Team All-Conference honors. Machi Chester was named Third Team All-Conference and also made the All-Freshman Team. Wade Robinson received Honorable Mention All-Conference.

On the women’s side, the team finished the season with a 3–24 record. While the results were not what they hoped for, the group continued to compete and gain experience throughout the season. With several younger players having to step into larger roles, the team will look to build off this year and bounce back next season.

Freshman Teona Gillette had a strong season and was named to the Second Team All-Conference and All-Freshman Team. Landen Smith also earned Honorable Mention All-Conference.

Overall, it was a strong season for Henry Ford basketball. With a conference championship, several award winners, and a young group of players, the program has a lot of momentum heading into the future.
