Hawks Hoops Honor Cancer Survivors

Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams participated in a ‘Pink Game’ on February 10. Both teams and fans wore as much pink as possible in support of cancer survivors and specifically Mary Jo Perkovich, a cancer survivor who works the doors at games and is a “long supporter of the program,” expressed Athletic Director Rochelle Taylor.

To go along with this occasion, there were two basketball games to be played against conference rival, Schoolcraft College.

The women tipped off first in a matchup against the 8th ranked Schoolcraft Ocelots. The Ocelots came in with a record of 22-2 and undefeated on the road this season. Even coming off a loss against Oakland Community College, the Hawks knew they had a tough road ahead of them. Henry Ford kept it close throughout the first half and seemed to be on the verge of an upset. But, the nationally ranked Ocelots proved to be too much for the Hawks. The Ocelots won with a final score of 58-75. Sydney Holmes, Ariel Walker, and Alexis Stripling all led the way for the Hawks with 14 points each. Walker and Stripling each had double-doubles with 11 and 14 rebounds respectively. Henry Ford’s overall record moved to 4-19 with the loss.

The second game of the doubleheader was the men’s team. The Ocelots won their last 6 games, and 13 of their last 15. The Ocelots got out to a quick lead and never looked back. The 70-89 loss dropped the Hawks record to 1-19 on the year. Diangelo Carlton of the Hawks continued leading the team in points per game as he had 19 to go along with 12 rebounds. Ricky Hudgens also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Both the men’s and women’s final two games of the regular season are February 22 and February 24, both at home, and the final game is Senior Night. Women will tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m.
