Many people have seen or at least have heard of the movie American Sniper. This movie was rated four stars and racked in more than 90 million during its nationwide opening. That making it one of the top grossing film. What some people do not know is the murder case that encases the movie. The hero behind the true story was murdered on February 2nd of 2013. The trail started on May 5th, 2013 and now, two years later, the jury has finally picked the trail back up on Eddie Ray Routh. From what the court was able to piece together from that day, Routh had shot and killed both Chris Kyle, the former Navy Seal and star behind the movie, and his close companion Chad Littlefield. Routh, who was a former US Marine, was thought by his family to be suffering from PSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Rouths family reached out to Kyle and Littlefield which is the reason why they took him to a gun range in Texas, to try to help him get past it. Routh had a history of bouncing in and out of mental hospitals since he was discharged from the Marine Corps. The defense argued that Routh had no idea what he was doing and was suffering from a personality disorder when he shot both of the men. The petty excuse that Routh gave the police was ‘I shot them because they wouldn’t talk to me. I was just riding in the back seat of the truck and nobody would talk to me. They were just taking me to the range so I shot them'. Two years later, after delays and postponements, the jury finally reached its verdict. They decided that Routh did know right from wrong and charged him with first degree murder and a life of prison. The stir of this case caused the Senate Bill 162, also known as the 'Chris Kyle Bill' to pass. The bill allows recognition for military training for certain jobs. It also allows the military spouses expedited states licensing for some careers.
