HFC's February Line-Up

Dear HFC Student,

Cassandra Fluker of the HFC Student Activities office has stated that, “February is the national month we discover, celebrate and honor the history and achievements of African-Americans. It is a time for reflection, sharing and learning.” In celebration of Black History Month Henry Ford College will be hosting a number of events throughout February.

If you’re looking for something to do in your downtime, or just would like to take a break from studying, then take these dates down in your calendar and come participate in one, or all of the events that will be taking place on campus!

Sure to be an entertaining spectacle, the Student Activities office is hosting “The Real Deal Game Show Featuring Black History Trivia” on Wednesday, Feb. 18. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Pavilion area of the Student & Culinary Arts Center.
HFC students will answer Black History questions and participate in games for the opportunity to win CASH prizes. Students are randomly selected.

Also, make sure to check out the “The Life and Legacy of Malcolm X”, a lecture that will take place on Thursday, Feb. 19, from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m., in Room K-14, of the Liberal Arts Building.
Dawud Walid, executive director of Council on American-Islamic Relations in Washington, D.C., will speak about Malcolm Little, the man who would become outspoken and oft-times controversial civil rights activist Malcolm X.

An event that could benefit not only first-time students, but veteran students as well is the 10th Annual Student Symposium: Making College Work for YOU: Attitude, Achievement and Academic Success
Wednesday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon, ASCC’s Rosenau Conference Rooms.
The symposium is designed to promote the importance of a college education and provide HFC and area high school students with the tools and information needed to be successful in their achieving educational goals.

All events are free and open to the public. These events are sponsored by the following HFC student organizations: the African American Association, the Muslim Student Association, the Diversity Club, the Council of World Cultures and the Office of Student Activities.
