Our Fall Brawl Winners

Henry Ford College had four place winners at the Fall Brawl NCWA (National
Collegiate Wrestling Association) tournament hosted by Mott Community
College.

Place winners for HFC included:

Champion Jeff Henderson (235 pounds) 3-0
Runner-Up Cody Stanley (165)
Third place Andrew Osbron (285)
Fourth place Darian Holmes (285)

Jeff Henderson (235 pounds) was one of the youngest wrestlers in the
building at the season opening Fall Brawl hosted by Mott Community College,
that didn’t stop him from posting a 3-0 record and winning his first
collegiate tournament.

Henderson, a New Boston Huron High School graduate who placed seventh in
the state as a senior, used a 14-2 major decision, and two regular
decisions to earn the championship.

In addition to Henderson, three other Henry Ford College Hawks placed in
the tournament including Southgate graduate Cody Stanley (165) taking
second, Hazel Park graduate Andrew Osbron (285) taking third and Woodhaven
alum Darian Holmes (285) taking fourth.

“We had a really good day,” coach Grant Mackenzie said. “It’s a great way
to open the season.”

Mackenzie also coached the University of Michigan-Dearborn team. The
Wolverines had a third place finisher in Jared Davison (149). Davidson
pinned the same grappler from Bowling Green State University in the first
round of the tournament and again in the third place match, both times in
about a minute.

The Henry Ford College team is in just its second season as a member of the
National Collegiate Wrestling Association. Last year the team sent six
grapplers to the national tournament, but none of those returned this
season.

“We’re hoping to get a couple of them back for the second semester,”
Mackenzie said. “We need a few more guys to fill out spots so we can
compete for the NCWA national championship.”

The Hawks only had six wrestlers compete in the Fall Brawl, with double
entries at both 235 and 285 pounds. In the NCWA there are 11 total weights,
in order to compete Mackenzie needs several others to fill in at other
weights.
“We had a few guys banged up already, and a couple out of town,” he said.
“But we still need people to fill in three or four weight classes.”
