HFC Refund Process Changes

Beginning Winter 2015, the way HFC students receive refunds is changing. Students will have a new method of receiving their refunds, and will be able to manage their money with the Henry Ford Card.

“The Henry Ford Card will expedite student refunds, increase service to students and expand refund options,” said HFC Bursar Rhonda Johnson.

Currently, students receive refunds as a check in the mail or as an ACH/direct deposit. Starting later this fall, eligible students will have the option to receive a same-business-day deposit into a Higher One checking account. With a Higher One account, the Henry Ford Card can be used as a debit card.

After receiving the card in the mail, students should visit www.HenryFordCard.com. There, they can select the new Henry Ford Card debit option or they can select to receive their refund as a paper check or as direct deposit into another account. Any one of these options can be selected when the account is activated at HenryFordCard.com.

“All current students with a U.S. address are eligible to receive the Henry Ford Card,” said Johnson. “The card will be automatically sent in the mail in an eye-catching green envelope. Students should make sure HFC has their correct mailing address to prevent delays in delivery. Students can update their address in WebAdvisor at www.hfcc.edu/webadvisor.”
Cards will be mailed starting November 7. The card must be activated before it can be used. Instructions on how to do that will come with the card.
If students are not currently expecting a refund, they should still activate the account because HFC may have money for them in the future.

HFC is partnering with Higher One to deliver this service to students. Higher One was started by three college students who believed in a better way to help students receive and manage money. To learn more about Higher One, visit www.HigherOne.com/Higher101.
There will be three Higher One ATMs on campus where students can use their Henry Ford Card. The ATM’s will be located at:

  • The Learning Technology Center (LTC) - in the lobby next to the hallway leading to the Campus Safety Office
  • The Health Careers Education Center - in the Atrium near the entrance to the Health Sciences Department offices
  • The HFC School of Nursing (East Campus - Building B) - in the pre-function area between the women's restroom and lounge/conference room
