Six Must-See Haunted Attractions for the Halloween Season

It’s that time of year again! The leaves are falling from the trees, their colors changing from green to hues of red and orange seemingly overnight. The days are getting shorter and the air has turned crisp, prompting one to throw on a hoodie to keep warm. It’s officially autumn. And with autumn comes ghosts, witches, creepy jack-o-lanterns, grim reapers, and the like that’s usually associated with Halloween. To get into the spirit of all things scary, here are six haunted attractions in the metro Detroit area to check out!

Hallowe’en in Greenfield Village
20900 Oakwood, Dearborn
Running now through October 26
Admission: $12.75 for members, $15 for non-members

History is the centerpiece to all things at The Henry Ford, and Hallowe’en is no exception. Take a walk down the winded path of Halloween yesteryears, where you’ll find the Headless Horsemen, Dracula, Frankenstein and other classic characters of Gothic literature. (thehenryford.org)

Erebus Haunted Attraction
18 S Perry St, Pontiac
Running now through November 2
Admission: $23 weekdays, $28 weekends

Originally built as a parking garage, the structure has now been transformed into one of the most popular haunted houses in Michigan, thanks to co-owners and brothers Edward and Jim Terebus (hauntedpontiac.com). The haunted houses you may have visited as a child are tame compared to what you see at Erebus. The interactive event is built on the premise of the mad scientist Dr. Colbert, who uses the establishment to conduct bizarre experiments on its visitors. Attractions include mutant gorillas, a “deceased” Uncle Freddy who mysteriously pops out of his casket, and a T-Rex who’s not afraid to bite. The four story house of screams has even garnered national attention, breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest walk-through haunted attraction from 2005-2009. (huffiungtonpost.com)

Realm of Haunted Minds
18910 Merriam Rd, Romulus
Running now through October 26
Admission: $10

The Huron Turkey Farm by day, this attraction is transformed into an insidious and haunted place by nightfall! According to its website, the Realm of Haunted Minds is not for the fain-hearted, as guests will encounter souls both living and dead.

Hush Haunted Attraction
34043 Ford Rd, Westland
Running now through November 1
Admission: $17

Voted 2013 Haunt of the Year by independent reviewer Horrorlust, the attraction is back and bigger than ever. With an expansion that has the building spread out over 10,000 square feet and a brand new design, Hush is sure to make even the most active thrill seeker crawl. Watch out for Dr. Phun and his patients as they lurk around the premises.

Night Terrors
5565 Merritt Rd, Ypsilanti
Running now through November 1
Admission: $17.99 for single event
$41.99 Thursday, Friday, Saturday for all 6 attractions, $29.99 on Sundays

This attraction serves up not just one, but six different forms of fear! Visitors can choose between the Ultimate Haunted Barn, The Asylum, the Mind Shaft, Alien Caged, the paintball-filled Splatertown, and Hayride of the Lost. Or if you’re brave enough, try all six!

The Realm of Darkness
37 Turk St, Pontiac
Running now through November 2
Admission: $22 for Realm of Darkness, $13 for House of Nightmares 3D, $30 combo

Located not too far from Erebus, Pontiac’s other scary attraction claims to be one of the few “real haunted houses” in Michigan (detroit.cbslocal.com). If you dare to enter the Realm of Darkness, you are more than likely to encounter Daemon, the evil wizard who has reigned the building for decades. For every person he claims, the stronger Daemon becomes, using his powers to increase the amount of time he has left in the realm. Every visitor has a chance to compete against the wizard, and if the person wins, they get to collect a prize. Other bone-chilling features in the attraction include zombies, pirates, and crazy experiments.
