In 2013, Detroit native musician MIKAL debuted his dark, Poe-inspired masquerade ball known as The Masquerade Of The Red Death to a crowd of 1000+ for its inaugural outing, proving that Edgar Allan Poe continues to haunt our dreams, even 164 years after his mysterious death.

The Masquerade Of The Red Death is part masquerade ball, part live stage play, part twisted and dark variety show, and completely terrifying. This unique event places its guests not simply in front of a stage to watch a reenactment of Poe’s masterpiece The Masque Of The Red Death, but, more precisely, it places them in the center of the story itself. Live actors play out the story throughout the venue, throughout the night, around the guests while they enjoy the dark masquerade festivities.

This year, The Masquerade Of The Red Death will utilize the the Ballroom and other rooms at The Crofoot, Saturday, October 25th,

There are seven rooms in the castle, just as in Poe’s original story, each reflecting a different color and different type of entertainment. In between the live scenes from the story, revelers can wander from room to room to enjoy everything from musicians and dancers to magic, side shows, fire performers, strolling performers, burlesque, psychics, aerial performers, and more.

Imagine that you could be in the room as a police officer questioning the murderer in The Tell-Tale Heart, or a guest at the Overlook Hotel while Jack the dull boy slowly descends into madness. You’re about to be injected directly into the center of Poe’s masterpiece, as it was written 172 years ago.

THE RULES: The only rules of The Masque are:

1) Masquerade Wear Is Required.

2) Do Not Wear Red.
