Henry Ford Community College Selects Next President

On Wednesday, April 3, the Dearborn Board of Education chose the next president of Henry Ford
Community College. According to the Arab American News, the board voted 5-1 to choose Stan Jensen
as favored candidate for the position.

According to hfcc.edu, Jensen has performed his duty as president and CEO of Colorado Mountain
College for almost five years. CMC is an expanding institution that is positioned first in Colorado and
seventeenth in the nation for student achievement, as measured by graduation and transfer rates. As a
higher education administrator, Dr. Jensen concentrated on deliberate planning for college expansion,
program and resource development strategic technology adoption and leadership. Furthermore, Dr. Jensen
is a published author of three books on the subjects of leadership and team building.

According to the Dearborn Patch, Board of Education President Pamela Adams said that she was
personally pleased with the board’s decision to pick Jensen, who will replace Dr. Gail Mee.

"I was impressed with his broad background," Adams said. "For me he was the candidate that had a
vision of what Henry Ford Community College should be, and I think he can take the college to the next
level."

During the 2013-2014 school year, Henry Ford Community College is expected to raise tuition rates by
more than 7 percent considering the school’s financial deficit.

"The board wanted a candidate who could look at all the college's programs broadly and determine how to best
move forward for the future of HFCC," Adams said

According to Dearborn Patch, Candidate Gordon May, temporary president of the Oakland Community
College Auburn Hills Campus, is the board’s second choice if the compromises with Jensen fail.

Adams stated once a contract is settled with Jensen, the board will schedule forums for the public to meet
the new president and talk about their concerns for HFCC.

After current HFCC President Gail Mee leaves, she will be visiting a college the Netherlands as a
consultant. “I am most excited to be having more time to spend with my family and time to pursue other
interest.” Dr Mee says she believes the future of HFCC is bright and well positioned as a college.
