Sports - Henry Ford Community College’s Intramural Sports

Henry Ford Community College presents Intramural Sports for the winter 2013 semester. This event came into the light when Athletic Director Rochelle Taylor resurrected the intramural program last year. “It’s simply for fun and bragging rights,” Taylor said. The intramural sports program this semester consists of a 45 second free throw, Table Tennis, Wii Golf, Wii Bowling, NCAA Men’s Final Four Bracket, and a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. There will also be a 3 mile fun run and a 2-mile fitness walk. Both faculty/staff and students of Henry Ford Community College are able to participate free of charge.
The Basketball Tournaments consist of a total of four players per team. The fourth player can be optional if a substitution is needed. All teams must assign a captain. Captains will need to provide their email addresses and cell phone numbers. All players must be current students of HFCC. All games are played half court and have a score cap of seven point, with one point per basket. All calls and scores will be announced by Mr. Rueben Washington. All games have a maximum time of 15 minutes. Basketball teams may be co-ed. Games will not include time outs. Each player can only be on one team.
Champions of 3 on 3 basketball tournaments will each receive trophies and an intramural champion polo shirt. Second place will receive an intramural tee-shirt.
Last year, the intramural sports concluded with four champions. HFCC’s Job Placement Officer, Chad Austin, placed first in both the 45 second free flow and Wii Golf competitions. The Table Tennis Champion was student Sulaiman Yousef and he was also the runner up in Wii Golf behind Chad Austin. Josh Earles won champion of Wii Bowling. Lastly, the champion for the NCAA Bracket Buster was instructor Roger Weekes.
Considering the spring break, there will still be time to register. Dates and times for the events vary, but events generally take place on Mondays and Thursdays between noon and 3 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact Rochelle Taylor at her office by calling 313-317-4138 or in the athletic building in room PE 210 to receive registration forms. You may also contact the Intramural Coordinator Rueben Washington at his office which is in room PE-9 or by phone at 313-317-6878.
