Opinion - The Star Wars Transformation

For years, the Star Wars franchise has been a constant force in childhood dreams and adult fantasies. They represent a completely different life than what we, as earthlings, are accustomed to. Even with the dictatorship depicted in the films, they exude a sense of freedom, and yet, through it all, do not lose those wonderfully tangible human aspects, such as love, respect and a search for peace. Will this all change when director JJ Abrams offers his rendition of the beloved series?
JJ Abrams was the creator behind the television programs Lost, Alias and Felicity, giving his viewers something to look forward to while sitting at the edge of their seats, abandoned on a cliff of suspense. Along with directing certain series and movies, he is also a composer and producer. He has produced motion pictures like Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Cloverfield and many other films as well (imdb.com).
For me, when growing up, I always wanted to watch an episode of Star Wars, I wanted to be transported to a planet with an unfamiliar name like “Hoth” or “Naboo”, and I knew that I would be when watching these movies. They do not merely belong to the genre of science fiction, but rather, in a way that only Star Wars can accomplish, they encompass all features of adventure, action, comedy and romance. That is what makes them special, that transcending ability to capture the human spirit and all that such may reflect.
When considering Abrams’ repertoire in films, music and television programs, as well as the fact that he produced Star Trek, I can rest at ease that the beloved series will not be lost, but possibly simply change. Modification is not an idea to be feared, but when necessary, encouraged.
