Campus Essentials - The Perfect Time to Schedule an Appointment

It is now mid-winter and the novelty of the semester has long disappeared. You may be part of the fortunate students who are looking forward to completing your associate’s degree or preparing to transfer to a four-year college of your choice. Or, you may be just looking forward to a spring break getaway.
Whatever your plans, you may want to include scheduling an appointment with a counselor. Did you know that right now is the perfect time to see a counselor for course planning, transfer planning, academic evaluation, and degree audit? Because registration for the fall semester has not yet begun, this is a great time to schedule an appointment with a counselor to discuss your career and educational pursuits.
As a student or alumni, you can schedule a one-hour career counseling appointment. During the appointment you and the counselor can explore the various career options and the educational path required for your occupation of choice. If you are not sure of a career choice, our licensed counselors can administer interest and aptitude tests to help you clarify possible careers.
A degree audit done with a counselor is important because the “unofficial audit” provides the student the opportunity to assure all requirements of the program are met before submitting the application for a certificate or associate degree to the Registrar’s office. This unofficial audit also assures that no additional requirements for graduation exist that you may not be aware of.
Counselors can also assist you with transfer planning. Transfer planning is very important because different colleges may require different courses for the same major. For example, what Wayne State University requires for a psychology transfer can be totally different from what Eastern Michigan University requires.
There is also the Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars & Admission Officer’s Michigan College Student Guide for Transfer of General Education Credits, better known as MACRAO, that a counselor can guide you through to prepare for transfer to a four-year college. Working with a counselor can help you avoid the error of taking courses not required for your major and transfer school.
Don’t wait until the rush begins for registration, schedule your appointment now!
