Sports - Henry Ford Community College Women’s Basketball Team leads several categories in NJCAA Division II

Several Henry Ford Community College (HFCC) Women’s Basketball Team members recently earned national rankings from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for their outstanding play.
Charisse Carr ranks fourth in points per game, averaging 23.3 points through Dec. 22, 2012. Carr has also achieved 7.8 defensive rebounds per game. DeJanique Reddix averages 18.3 per game, ranking her 17th in the nation. Asha Payne’s field goal percentage is 61.5 percent, ranking her 3rd in the nation. She also makes 85.7 percent of the free throws she attempts, as well as 72.7 percent of the 3-pointers she attempts. Reddix’s field goal percentage is 55.8 percent, providing her with an 11th ranking nationwide. Freshman Heba Bazzi has achieved 2.0 blocks per game, ranking her 30th in the NJCAA. Reddix also averages 5.6 turnovers per game whereas Carr and Shantel Tolbert are tied at 4.9 per game.
“Coach Leslie Williams and her staff have done a fantastic job preparing our team for conference play. We completed the pre-season with a record of 8-4 and our players are showing they can compete with players throughout the state, region and nation. We are really proud of our Lady Hawks!” said HFCC Athletic Director Rochelle Taylor.
Their next game is Saturday, Jan. 12, where the Lady Hawks travel to Livonia to take on Schoolcraft College.
