Women as the Way Forward

There are different stages of liberty and freedom we achieve because we are never completely or totally free. Women have celebrated with great joy the freedom gained over the decades to do things we were initially not allowed to do; the right to an education, the right to work, the right to vote. We are now at that point where females are occupying almost every profession a man does.
How about sports? There is Serena Williams, who holds the most major tennis titles amid singles, doubles, and mixed doubles among active players, male or female. And what about politics? The Prime Minister of Australia and leader of the Australian Labor Party is a woman, Julia Gillard. She makes history as the first woman to hold either office.
The impact women have had in the world is only a tip of the iceberg. A call for a ‘corporate revolution’ has risen, suggesting businesses begin to invest in women. Many are realizing the good women will bring the global economy; Women are more likely than men to put their income back into their communities, driving illiteracy and mortality rates down and GDP up*. As a matter of fact, there is a notion that the impact of women will be at least as significant as that of China’s and India’s respective 1-billion-plus populations*.
I am rather pleased that this notion has come to light; it’s about time. My only hope is that those working for this cause accomplish change.
