The student council elections did not secure enough members to meet the minimum requirement, thus prolonging the election process. Anthony Taylor and Tia Horner were elected as they were able to secure the required amount of 25 votes. But no other candidate was able to do this, leaving three positions open. But this isn’t exactly an extended election or at least not in a tradition sense.
What this means is that the currently selected student council members, in coordination with the Student Council Advisors, must follow the process of their constitution to bring the Student Council up to a minimum of five members. The Student Council Constitution, which exists as a result from the HFCC Broad of Trustees, is the ultimate guidebook of rules and regulations to for any council member.
According to the constitution they will get applications from the student body, review the qualifications, and conduct interviews with the necessary people. Only with a majority vote can the Student Council be brought back to its proper state.
This has truly been an odd turn of events, as many people expected of a straight election. However, that is why there is a constitution for the council; in case something changes, they have the means to react and adapt.
The fate of the remaining seats will lie in question until the advisors and council members can sort this out. This election may seem to be prolonged longer than it needs to be, but work is being done. Within time this issue of vacancy will be brought to end so the Council can resume its business as representing HFCC’s student body.
