News - HFCC Veteran Day Ceremony

In September, Henry Ford Community College attained honors when it was added to the 2013 Military Friendly Schools list by Victory Media. According to Victory Media, HFCC is in the first 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that providing valuable services to reinforce America’s military service members, veterans and dependents as students and to guarantee their success on campus.
On Monday, November 12, Henry Ford Community College hosted the ‘Veterans Remembered’ ceremony in the Forfa Auditorium in the Administration building. The ceremonial speakers included Dearborn Mayor John B. O’Reilly, HFCC Veterans Counselor Napolean Quick, HFCC Alumnus and Vietnam veteran Delmer Quick, HFCC President of Student Veterans of American Association Theodro Nelson, Michigan Air National Guard Colonel Rodney Williams, Original Tuskegee Airman Lt Colonel Washington Ross, President of Michigan Women Marines Association deb Drummond and Sgt Mohammad Arrar.
The ceremony started with the National Anthem led by HFCC Music Instructor Kevin Dewey.
Following the National Anthem, Student Activities Officer Cassandra Fluker asked all attendees to participate in a moment of silence to honor all veterans who lost their lives during combat.
Dr. Lisa Jones Copprue, Vice President of Student Affairs, welcomed the dignitaries that came in honor of Veteran’s Day.
Lt. Colonel Washington Ross, Deb Drummond and Sgt Mohammad Arrar sat on the stage to tell their story about how they came to the decision to protect their country. Afterward, they allowed a Q & A session with the audience.
Khristian Joy Alexander, Miss Michigan United States and HFCC and University of Michigan Alumna, also attended to meet-and-greet with veterans and pose for photos.
Attendees were able to create greeting cards for the U.S troops in the Student and Culinary Arts Center. Moreover, active military troops and veterans with military ID can collect a free fountain beverage from the skylight café with any purchase.
