HFCC Women’s Basketball

Head Coach, Leslie Williams, stated the importance of the three D’s for each team member as “desire, dedication, and discipline”. Despite this being her first year at HFCC, for Williams has 20 years of successful seasons implementing that tune in all of her players’ heads.
“I want to put them on the map. I know they have the skills and ability to get the recognition they deserve,” says Coach Williams.
This year’s captains are both second-year students with similar goals in mind.
“I want to get a scholarship to a bigger school,” captain Charisse Carr said.
Dejanique Reddix, also known as “DJ”, seconded that motion and added, “It’s time for us to reach the next level, transfer, study and play this game from different heights.”
Goals aren’t the only similarity these outstanding team leaders share. Outside of motivating this team, they hold the highest average points scored per game.
Charisse Carr (forward) leads the team with 26.6 points per game. Dejanique Reddix (forward/center) averages 14.3 points per game and also leads the team in rebounds with an average of 10 per game. Asha Payne (guard/forward) holds her position by averaging 13.6 point per game.
“The team does well with free throws,” assistant coach Glen Williams says.
Despite their loss against Owens Community College (which is ranked eighth in the conference), they bounced back with an amazing win against Jackson Community College with the score at 95 to 85 points.
“Our team has been known as the underdog in our league the past few seasons,” Reddix said.
“We’re going to make this a winning organization and a threat to anybody who plays against us,” Carr added.
With experience dated back to the seventh grade, team sports are nothing new to the leading duo. With the hard work and dedication of the team, success is inevitable.
