And the Winners Are…

On October 8, the HFCC bake club held their first annual Best Cupcakes competition. For only $1, students and faculty could sample all of the cupcakes and vote for their favorite one.
Judge Jeff Click from the Hospitality department voted for his favorite choice. Although four chefs were in the contest, only two could win. Winner of the people’s choice for her pumpkin spice cupcake was Angela Adkins, while Rita Cross won chef’s choice for her sweet potato delight.
Adkins decided she would make the pumpkin spice cupcake with its cream cheese frosting for the contest because she thought, “it was the perfect choice for the fall theme.”
The hospitality major discovered her passion for baking three years ago, after printing out recipes online. “I just started trying out recipes, going through trial and error,” said Adkins.
Fellow hospitality student Rita Cross chose to make sweet potatoes cupcakes because they’re very familiar to her.
“Sweet potato pie has been a staple of family holidays all my life,” she said. “We have them every Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
To give her recipe a unique twist, Cross added marshmallow butter cream frosting and graham cracker crust.
Congrats to Angela Adkins, Rita Cross, and the rest of the finalists. The Best Cupcakes contest was a success!
