WHFR Staff Members Honored at State Broadcasting Conference

Members of WHFR (whfr.fm), Henry Ford Community College’s independent, non-commercial radio station, took a trip to Lansing earlier this month for the 2012 Michigan Association of Broadcasters (MAB) Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference & Expo (GLBC) at the Lansing Center.
The annual conference included comprehensive workshops covering many aspects of the broadcast industry, a career fair with representatives from various colleges and dozens of Michigan-based radio and television stations, and a short address by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder to kick things off. The governor, along with a panel of some of Michigan’s top business strategists, highlighted their plans for the “reinvention of the state,” a central theme of this year’s conference.
The panelists included: Gerard Anderson, President/CEO, DTE Energy; Mary Sue Coleman, President, University of Michigan; Doug Rothwell, President/CEO, Business Leaders of Michigan; and Peter Secchia, Grand Rapids businessman and former U.S. Ambassador to Italy.
In addition, the MAB Foundation recognizes certain individuals each year from high school and college broadcasting programs for excellence in specific categories. WHFR is proud of two such individuals, (pictured) Troy Wilcox and Adrian Lofton, staff members who earned special recognition at the conference. Adrian Lofton is the recipient of this year’s Charles D. Fritz Memorial Scholarship and Troy Wilcox earned second place in the talk show format category.
