WHFR Presents Fourth Annual Holistic Fair

Henry Ford Community College’s independent, non-commercial radio station, WHFR (89.3 FM, whfr.fm), in conjunction with media partner The Body Mind Spirit Guide, presents the 4th Annual Festival of Enlightenment Holistic Fair.
This event takes place Saturday, March 24, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Student and Culinary Arts Center on the school’s main campus. Admission is $5 for the general public and free for students with current school identification.
The purpose of this event is to raise funds for WHFR, as well as to promote the products and services offered by the various vendors—products and services geared toward a better quality of life. The fair will feature a wide range of options to appeal to all of the senses, including food, clothing, jewelry, skin care products, body workers, readers, live music and presentations by four speakers. There will also be a Tin Can Raffle, with prizes donated from a variety of local merchants.
The event was a natural next step for the fair’s founder, Mike Holloway, who hosts Go with the Flow (a “rockin’ blues” show on Tuesdays from 4 – 6 p.m.) and Metaphysically Speaking (a talk show from 1 – 2 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month) on WHFR.
“I was trying to find my own niche as to what I could do to help the radio station raise money for the general operating fund,” he said, “because we definitely need money—we always need money—and I was trying to do something unique. After doing a little research, I discovered that it might be possible to actually put on our own holistic fair.”
Lynn Grunst, host of WHFR’s No Boys A-Loud (a music show featuring female artists on Saturdays from 12 – 2 p.m.) and Impact (a talk show from 1 – 2 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month), got involved during the planning of the second fair and assists Holloway with the event’s many tasks. She said it is difficult to find events with the kind of value that the Holistic Fair offers.
“The five dollar entry gives you access to the building,” she said. “So if you want to just visit all of the tables that are out there, you can, and you can listen to the music all day for free. The food is a dollar per item, so you pay just a dollar for the sandwich, a dollar for the chips, a dollar for the coffee and you have lunch for three bucks.
“And then the presenters; we have four speakers, and they’re all experts in their various fields,” Lynn added.

The presentations are as follows:

12 p.m.: Ginger Bridget Wiechers, Executive Director of S.O.U.L., “In Giving We Receive”
1 p.m.: David Krajovic, Advocate for Inspired Living, “Unlocking the Barriers to Human Potential; How to Live an Authentic and Inspired Life”
2 p.m.: Barbra White, Spiritual Teacher and Author, “Why Self Acceptance is so Powerful”
3 p.m.: Chrissie Blaze, Author/Astrologer/International Speaker, “2012: The Year of Prophecy”

Krajovic, White and Blaze have all been interviewed on Metaphysically Speaking, according to Holloway.
When asked what stood out in her mind in regard to previous Holistic Fairs, Lynn brought up some of the body workers, specifically a massage technique known as reiki. “You’re flat, your clothes are on, and the hands of the Reiki Master are, maybe, two or three inches above your flesh,” she said. “And as they go through your body, it’s an energy exchange. It feels really good. It’s very relaxing.”
