Counselor’s Corner - SPRING INTO REGISTRATION

As your thoughts turn to warmer weather, blossoming flowers, and outdoor sports, don’t forget to plan your classes at HFCC for the upcoming semesters. You will be pleased to find a great selection of classes at convenient times, if you prepare your schedule now. Below you will find some answers to frequently asked questions.

When does registration begin?
You can register as early as 12:00 a.m. on March 12 for spring and summer classes, and on April 9 for fall classes. However, you must use WebAdvisor, the web-based tool for registration, grades, schedules, financial aid information, and other helpful resources, to schedule your classes. The new Schedule Planner will also be available, allowing you to add breaks and block off time for work, athletics, family obligations, and other commitments. You may also use the Wait List if your desired class is filled; and you will be contacted by e-mail if a seat becomes available. Make sure you have an active e-mail account for this function.

What if I don’t have a computer at home?
The Registration Office, located in the lower level of the Learning Resources Center, will be open at 8:00 a.m. on March 12 to assist you. There are a number of computers available; and the staff will help you access WebAdvisor if you have difficulties.

How do I know what classes to take?
Licensed professional counselors will guide you in class selection, program and graduation requirements, class sequencing, transfer opportunities, articulation agreements, MACRAO eligibility, and other helpful resources. Call (313) 845-9611, or stop by the Counseling Office, located on the first floor of the Learning Resources Center, for a convenient appointment before you register for your classes.

Does WebAdvisor show the available spring, summer, and fall classes now?
Classes are listed on WebAdvisor for you to preview before March 12; however, you may not register for your desired classes until the designated dates.

If I don’t register for classes on March 12 or April 9, will that be a problem?
You may register for classes until the day they begin. The spring semester begins on Tuesday, May 8; the summer semester starts on Tuesday, June 26; and the fall semester commences on Thursday, August 23. The earlier you register, the better opportunity you will have to customize your schedule around your life activities. If you choose to wait to register, your choice of classes, times, days, teachers, campuses, and on-line options will be greatly minimized.

I tried to register and was locked out. What do I do?
There are many reasons for this. Check with staff in Registration, who may refer you to the Cashier’s or Financial Aid Offices for details. Additionally, you may need to schedule an appointment with a counselor if you are on probation or dismissal. Other obstacles might be: a missing transcript or social security number, password problem, or financial obligation to HFCC. The sooner you determine the restriction, the better it will be for you, as this will allow you time to resolve the matter and still access a desirable schedule.

Best wishes for an interesting and productive educational experience at HFCC!
