HFCC will offer a five-day seminar titled ‘Power-Up Your Communication!’ for the unemployed, under-employed and veterans from Feb. 6-10, 2012. The seminar will take place each day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the HFCC M-TEC, located at 3601 Schaefer Road in Dearborn.
The seminar objective is to teach participants how to communicate effectively, strengthen interpersonal relationships, tap unrecognized potential, manage stress and handle fast-changing workplace conditions as they look to reenter the workplace and increase their effectiveness in their job search. Admission is free thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
‘People develop a take-charge attitude that allows them to initiate with confidence and enthusiasm. This class will also give participants the confidence and skills needed to stand at the front of the line for consideration when applying for a job,’ said Tricia N. Llewellyn, director of Workforce Development for HFCC.
Each day will focus on a different topic. The first day focuses on building a foundation for success, such as boosting self-confidence and creating positive first impressions. The second day focuses on effective communication elements, including written communications, oral communications, listening, email uses and etiquette, and identifying causes of miscommunication.
The third day focuses on making ideas clear and enhancing relationships. The fourth day focuses on the ethics of business communication, customer services and conflict resolution. The fifth day focuses on influencing people through trust and respect, teaching the art of disagreeing agreeably and becoming more open-minded to change and opportunity.
According to Llewellyn, at the end of the seminar participants will have a higher level of confidence, improved written and oral communication skills, a stronger appreciation for teamwork and creative problem-solving, and enhanced motivational skills.
‘This seminar is a great opportunity for those who are looking to reenter the workplace and refresh their personal brand and communications skills,’ said Llewellyn.
