Counselor’s Corner: Conflict and Anger

Hi everyone. I’ve been a counselor at Henry Ford Community College for 11 years, and I’ve recently been assigned the role of Behavioral Intervention Specialist. What this means is that if you are experiencing conflict with your peers, or with your instructors, you may want to come in and talk about it.

Everyone is feeling a lot of stress these days. The economy is such that finding work is very difficult, and those with jobs feel extra pressure to stay where they are. Add to this the pressures of schoolwork, parents, spouses, children and any outside responsibilities, and the stress can be overwhelming.

What may then happen is a reaction to all of this pressure: some people may turn the stress inward and experience depression; some may feel anger and express it outwardly, causing conflict in their relationships with others.

Probably the best first step in alleviating this “stress” is talking it out. I am planning to offer workshops/seminars in conflict and anger management in the near future. In the meantime, you are welcome to make a half hour or hour appointment with me, or with any of our Licensed Professional Counselors, to try and ease the burdens you may be experiencing.

Remember, all counselor appointments are confidential and free. You don’t need to handle it all alone.
