Welcome to the Questionable Wonderful World of Gaming!

Everyone loves video games. I love video games. You love video games. Even your girlfriend, who claims she hates them, goes home and plays some Farmville when she can. Now, some people may ask, “What’s so great about video games, anyway?” The answer is simple: They make us feel better in so many different ways.
If you had a bad day, for example, you can take out your aggression on the Covenant or those pesky Alliance players who killed you when you were just level 12. If you’re feeling lonely, you can always create your own family and friends because, after all, you can’t control your REAL family’s every move! And the best part is that you CAN win a grand prix, save the world and travel to places you never knew existed (because they don’t).
It’s for these very reasons that I decided to write this video game column. In the issues to come, I plan to review some new releases, discuss conflicts and classics, and communicate with you, the gamers of HFCC, to hear what you have to say. I will talk about games of all different genres; from FPSs to MMOs to RTSs.
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Well you will, eventually. In the meantime, here’s a little segment for this issue that I’d like to call: “N00s for N00bs.”
So you want to join the wonderful world of gaming? Or perhaps you’re an old player who wants to reconnect? Well, the times have changed and the players out there are harsher than ever. So, here are just a few key facts you’ll need to know before you throw yourself out onto the battlefield:
1. If you don’t know how to use a sniper, you’ll never be a pro at first-person shooters.
2. Never brag about how you’re awesome at an RPG. Anyone can be good at Paper Mario.
3. Trolls are everywhere. Don’t let them get you!
4. Know what a troll is (see number 3).
5. L337 5P34K is a real language. No really…look it up.
6. No matter how good they are, your strategies will never go through. Just hack n’ slash.
7. You know you take games too seriously if the only way you ever quit is by “rage quitting.”
8. Lastly, NEVER go to a strange website, no matter how free that awesome mount is.
Grats, bro! You’re ready for the gaming world, and I’m ready to guide you through it! And I have to admit that I feel absolutely privileged to write about something I love and share it with people who love it, too.
It’s going to be a great year at HFCC! Thanks for reading, fellow gamers! Stay golden!
