Glass Academy to Host Dearborn SOUP

Come join the kick off for Dearborn SOUP, a monthly dinner that funds micro-grants for creative projects in the community. This event, modeled after Detroit Soup (detroitsoup.com), is designed to support local entrepreneurs whose ideas will positively impact the community in the areas of the arts, humanities, or “green” initiatives.

The Dearborn Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the non-profit division of the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce, brings Dearborn SOUP to Dearborn beginning March 6, 2011. The event will take place the first Sunday of every month and will be held at a Dearborn-based business, thereby promoting local venues. The first SOUP will be at the Glass Academy, an established local business that promotes the glass arts through events, shows, and community based projects.

When attending SOUP, each attendee will make a $5 donation for admission, and will receive a light meal generally including soup, salad and bread. During the dinner, two to four pre-qualified individuals will make presentations about their idea. The attendees then vote and a portion of the proceeds goes to the winning project idea that evening. Families are encouraged to come with older children so they can see businesses in the start-up phase and learn how entrepreneurs make their pitches for funding.

“It’s a great, empowering evening. We are also looking forward to watching all the great networking that will happen when great minds come together,” explains Michelle Plucinsky, co-owner of the Glass Academy. “We have many clients who love to support ideas such as this so we are expecting a full house on Sunday. Make sure you come early to get a seat!”
