From the Editor

Halloween is here and, as you will learn, we are not above rolling with seasonal themes and ideas. In fact, for the second year in a row I, along with several other HFCC students, work part-time at a haunted house/ corn maze not too far from Dearborn, and we've posted some of our "work" photos in a gallery on the back cover. In addition, Brianna Klutz gives us yet another sample of her unique creativity, this time in the form of a somewhat dark short story- accompanied by more original art from the Mirror News online editor Mariana Moreira- for the cover of "Through Out Looking Glass," the section of the paper devoted entirely to fiction (yes, even the "news" is made up).
Also in this issue of the Mirror News, staffer Abel Ramirez contributes to the paper for the first time, covering the HFCC Learning Lab and offering a fresh look at classic films and literature in the horror genre- and even includes an original illustration for the latter.
With an eye on the upcoming election, Martin Morris penned a comprehensive breakdown of the various candidates, thoroughly explaining who they are and what they hope to accomplish, while Janay Hillman advances a theme from a previous issue- sustainability- and then directs some much-deserved attention on HFCC English professor Ruth Ann Schmitt and her labor of love, the Michigan Ave. Creative Arts Journal.
In the area of entertainment Rachael Woods reviews the movie Paranormal Activity 2 and Lauren Wynn give a heads up on the upcoming Theatre for Young Audiences production of The Secret Garden.
the two staff writers/columnists also contribute additional content: Lauren looks at the Ford Amateur Astronomy Club, while Rachael meets, ahem, Jennifer Rymarz in our "Spotlight On" series, and both offer a unique take on life in their respective columns.
This issue also includes two features about WHFR, the college's "station making waves." First, Anthony J. Crump meets the indie rock band Citizen Smile on the Motor Live Drive at 5, followed by Imani Harris's in-depth look at Origix and DC, co-hosts of the popular underground hip hop show The Zone.
In addition, Batool Saad brings us up to speed regarding the efforts of HFCC's Amnesty International Club, guest contributor Sandra Boulton explains her company's charitable work at the Dearborn Farmers and Artisan Market, and woman's volleyball coach Scott Gray gets to the heart of the team's regional playoffs.
Finally, the Mirror's Courtney Hardison offers an interesting lesson in Numerology to go along with all of our regular sections, like "Counselors Corner," our Club Directory and of course, "Through Our Looking Glass," the section of the Mirror News devoted to creative projects contributed by our staff, as well the students and faculty of HFCC.
Thank you for reading!
